International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY)

“IBBY is a non-profit organization, which represents an international network of people from all over the world who are committed to bringing books and children together.” IBBY offers many awards beyond the Hans Christian Andersen Award, often called “the little Nobel,” and many other activities that build upon founder Jella Lepman’s philosophy of promoting connection through “a bridge of children’s books.” The US chapter, the United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY), also has activities beyond their award, the annual Outstanding International Books List of translations and English-language imports. Dip into IBBY’s journal, Bookbird, and USBBY’s newsletter, “Bridges,” to see what they are doing.
