Ginny Tapley Takemori – Japanese

Ginny Tapley Takemori lives in rural Japan and has translated fiction by more than a dozen early modern and contemporary Japanese writers. Her translation of Sayaka Murata’s Akutagawa Prize-winning novel Convenience Store Woman was named by New Yorker magazine as one of the best books of 2018. She has translated two short story collections for children by postwar author Akiyuki Nosaka and Tomiko Inui’s The Secret of the Blue Glass, a fantasy about a family of little people, similar to Mary Norton’s The Borrowers, who struggle to survive during wartime.
